likes,
- Traveling: Being a nomad Ranger, Aragorn has traveled around Middle Earth quite a bit during his long years of life and has come to terms with having to change places quite often so he can be where he is needed.
- Elvish Culture: As he was raised at Rivendell by Lord Elrond, Aragorn has come to appreciate much of the Elven culture. He speaks their language fluently and knows many of their songs by heart.
- Arwen: Since his twenties he has been in love with Lord Elrond's daughter. If that shall change or is reciprocated is anyone's guess at the moment.
- Beauty: Just like every men, Aragorn likes to see and is taken by beautiful things, be them places or beings he has seen before.
- His lineage: Even though Aragorn fears falling prey to the One Ring as Isildur has done, he is very proud of his ancestors and what they have accomplished for Middle Earth.
dislikes,
- Foul creatures of Mordor: Aragorn has spent many years hunting Orcs, Trolls and other dark creatures sent by the Dark Lord and loathes all of them.
- Sauron: Like any free person on Middle Earth, Aragorn dislikes the Lord of Mordor and will fight against him and his forces to his last strengths.
- Being slowed down: Aragorn does not like to loose time with minor things of convenience, such as the many meals Hobbits seem to indulge during the course of a day, when speed is of great importance to the fulfillment of the current mission or the safety of his companions.
- Treason: Aragorn considers it the height of dishonor for anyone to betray a vow made and will think lowly of those who do such a thing.
- Destruction: Just like beauty can soothe the soul, facing a leveled place is a sour experience. Aragorn tends to feel a bit responsible for not being able to help defend those who were slain.
strengths,
- Tracking: Aragorn is a master tracker and can pick up even the faintest signs left on the earth by other creatures. He can track even light foot beings such as Hobbits.
- Healing: Aragorn is a very accomplished field healer, knows how to collect and the several names by which many plants used in healing are called throughout Middle Earth.
- Sword fighting: Aragorn is known as one of the best swordsmen on Middle Earth.
- Leadership: Aragorn has a presence and a great sense of his own responsibility in the current quest, yet at the same time he is a humbler person than one might expect. He is someone one can count on and would never send anyone to do something he would not do so himself.
- Loyalty: Maybe that is one of Aragorn's greatest strengths. The last thing he would consciously allow himself to do is to betray, disappoint or leave his companions behind in any way if that can be averted. Aragorn would go to any lengths to make sure that they are well and that the objective of the fellowship is fulfilled.
- Lay of the land: Aragorn has been to many places in Middle Earth and knows his way to them. Actually he knows several ways to get to several different important places, including some short cuts from a few to a few others. In a nutshell, he is a great guide.
weaknesses,
- The One Ring: Just like the next guy, Aragorn is also drawn by Sauron's ring. This makes him question himself on occasion about his place in what is coming.
- The fellowship: Aragorn would willingly sacrifice himself for the safety of his companions and thus they are one of his weaknesses.
- Pride: Aragorn can be sometimes over-proud and at first refuse to part with his few possessions, especially his sword, even when such would've been seen as a gesture of good will or no harm intent.
- Archery: Even though Aragorn was raised and trained amongst Elves, who are ace in this skill as a rule of thumb, he is not to their level in it at all. He is a good hunter and can bullseye something that is moving, like a rabbit, but he is no Robin Hood or Legolas. Not even close to that.
- Somewhat unkept appearance: Since Aragorn is used to live in the wilderness as a nomad by now, he doesn't look so great some of the time and that can cause some to fear or distrust him at first, as happened with the four Hobbit companions at Bree.
fears,
- Sauron's victory over the free peoples of Middle Earth and the world getting enveloped in darkness forever
- Failing the ones who placed their trust in his abilities, especially the members of the fellowship of the ring
- Being appointed or seen as king when he feels he is still not totally ready for it yet
dreams,
- See the world free of Sauron and his armies forever
- Help rebuild everything that has been destroyed by the dark armies
- Relinquish the nomadic lifestyle and settle down somewhere, most likely Gondor
- Constituting a family and let his lineage go on
personality, One of the key aspects of Aragorn's personality is his selflessness and from there stems all his other characteristics. He is nothing but a dependable person. You can always rely on him for help or guidance, especially if you need to go somewhere safely. He would consider it the height of dishonor to mistrust or betray a companion for any reason. He has lived for a long time, considering he is a man, due to his Dúnedain lineage, and so being he has a kind of wisdom that comes with age and experience. Also Aragorn has been living in the wilderness since his twenties, so for about 60 years now, and has seen many battles against the forces of Sauron, so he is a little stoic in his demeanor as well.
Aragorn in the field is a fierce warrior and a swordsman with very few equals. He won't back down faced with nothing that Mordor or Isengard can create. Yes, he may be afraid, but he won't let his fear dominate him for long. His vows are infinitely more important to him than his safety. He is also someone very perceptive, who knows how to listen and usually knows what to say to inspire others into action, which makes of him an effective field leader when added to his experience. He is the kind of person who leads through example, never sending anyone to do something he wouldn't be willing to do himself beside them.
His greatest fear is to succumb to the same lure that overtook his ancestor, Isildur, and so being he is always trying to control himself while besides Frodo in order to keep his word and protect him in his journey to Mordor. Although he would never allow himself to consciously betray Baggins' trust by making an overt move towards the ring, he also knows that he cannot let his mind wander while next to it, which means he will always have a thoughtful or introspective semblance when around the Hobbits, especially the ring carrier.

history, In the year 2931 of the Third Age, Aragorn was born from Arathorn II and Gilraen. When he was a two year old toddler, his father was killed while hunting Orcs. His mother then took him to Rivendell where he was fostered by Lord Elrond. His ancestry and lineage being withheld from him by Gilraen's request to keep him safer from persecution and meeting an untimely death. Aragorn, for this reason, was then renamed Estel.
His true name and ancestry were revealed to him at age 20, after which he received from Elrond some of his rightful heirlooms that were kept in Imladris for the purpose of safety due to the nomadic lifestyle of the Dúnedain of the North. These heirlooms were the Ring of Barahir, which he was to give to his chosen bride, and the shards of Narsil, the legendary sword of Elendil, which would at a later time be reforged and renamed Anduril. It was also by this time that Aragorn met and fell in love with Arwen, sole daughter of Elrond, as she returned from a long stay with her grandmother Galadriel at Lothlórien. His mother questioned him when she began to notice a change in his behavior and afraid that such infatuation could end her son's lineage due to Elrond not being willing to give the hand of his daughter to a mortal man like her son, she convinced Aragorn it was his fate to wander in the Wild. Aragorn then became the 16th Chieftain of the Dúnedain and joined the ranks of the Rangers of the North.
Aragorn met Gandalf, the Grey, in the year 2956 of the Third Age and they became fast friends. Upon the Istari's request, he began to guard the land known as the Shire with his Rangers, where he became known as Strider in its surrounding areas, such as the village of Bree. From 2957 to 2980, Aragorn has gone in great journeys while serving with the armies of King Thengel of Rohan and Steward Ecthelion of Gondor. Generally his tasks helped with raising morale in the West and were effective in countering the forces of Sauron and his allies. During such quests Aragorn has earned invaluable experience he would later draw on. While undertaking such quests, he served in disguise being known as Thorongil.
After this period of time, Aragorn also traveled through the Dwarven Mines of Moria and visited Harad where the stars looked strange. In the year 3009 of the Third Age, Gandalf grew suspicious of the origins of the ring which now belonged to his friend Bilbo Baggins, which he believed to be the dreaded One Ring of Sauron. Aragorn then went into Rhovanion in search of the creature Gollum from whom Bilbo had acquired the ring. He caught him in the Dead Marshes near Mordor and brought him captive to Thranduil's Halls in Mirkwood where Gandalf later questioned the creature.
After Bilbo's birthday party and Frodo's inheritance of the One Ring, Aragorn met with the latter and his three Hobbit companions, Merry, Pippin and Sam at the Inn of the Prancing Pony in Bree where the Halflings where waiting for Gandalf. The Hobbits were at first suspicious of him, but eventually they came to trust the man they knew only as Strider by then. Together they escaped the Ringwraiths, who were after the One Ring for Sauron, and reached Rivendell where Frodo's injuries could properly be tended to unlike in the field, even though Aragorn did his best to stabilize them until they could reach Imladris and the Hobbit could receive Elven help for his Nazgul blade injuries. During the council of Elrond, when the fellowship of the ring, tasked with Frodo's protection and the ultimate destruction of the One Ring, was formed, Aragorn offered himself to be a part of it. He was present at the attempts to cross Caradhras and the Mines of Moria, where he helped the others in the ensuing melee within against Orcs and Trolls.

rp sample,(I took the liberty to change this scene a little for the purpose of this sample post. It follows neither movie nor book. It's like a sort of AU scene.)
Being warned by Gandalf of what could be happening soon, Aragorn made it his vow to be present when the Istari's Hobbit friends arrived at Bree. 'Wasn't there supposed to be only two of them?' The Ranger thought to himself seeing four of the Halflings enter the Inn of the Prancing Pony. They stood apart in the crowd due to their height. Not that it mattered how many they were anyway. He was to keep an eye on them and protect them as they were carrying something precious. What this something precious was, Aragorn could only suppose due to his last mission for his Wizard friend.
His perceptive eyes scanned all the room for threats towards the little ones. Soon there was a commotion… Baggins was now revealed as himself by one of his companions. Beneath the hood that was covering his face, Aragorn was paying attention to the positions of the Hobbits. If things grew too complicated for them, he'd have to interfere. And then it happened… Suddenly he could no longer see one of the Hobbits, Frodo. Aragorn's eyes went wide and searched the room even more avidly. Nothing. He was ready to interfere and take the Halflings out into a room where he could keep both his eyes on them until the morning.
Though the Hobbits, the fourth having mysteriously unvanished, started to go upstairs on their own accord. Aragorn silently and quietly followed them up and as they closed their room's door, he made his presence noticed through his voice. "That was an interesting demonstration down there. I can avoid being seen if so I desire, but to disappear completely is not something I ever heard of…" He said, showing himself to the Hobbits. Aragorn knew that they wouldn't know who he was, but anyway he'd have to convince the little ones to take him along. He checked if there was anyone outside the door who could listen in, closed it, took a seat and then continued.
"Your… business is a dangerous one as are those who are after you. I may know a few things about both and I can impart my knowledge to you right now. I only ask one thing in return: that you take me as your guide and that is a deal breaker. I'll answer whichever questions you might have to prove my good will… By the way, at these parts I'm known as Strider." Aragorn's voice was direct, incisive, a bit threatening at parts, yet humble overall. He knew that his vagrant appearance would not be helpful to his intent, but they had to accept his offer or they would never reach Rivendell alive with the Nazgul following them as Aragorn had heard accounts of the Black Knights at this region lately and soon they would be zeroing in on them after Frodo's little stunt downstairs.
