Meriadoc Brandybuck
this, my friend, is a pint.
full name, meriadoc brandybuck
nicknames, merry, tiny orc spy
age, 36, though he only sometimes acts it
class/profession, profession? Does professional drinker count?
marital status, single
race, hobbit
alliance, fellowship of the ring
hair, reddish and curly, shorter than most, but longer than some
eyes, blue eyes that can become as round as apples when he's interested or surprised by something
build and body, he stands at 3'3”, proudly stating that he is taller than Pippin whenever it can be brought up. He isn't in any top physical shape, but really, what hobbit is? He should be very overweight for all the food he eats, though he isn't nearly as married to food as Pippin.
anything else, Just note that he's taller than Pippin, that's all he cares about.
face claim, Dominic Monaghan

likes,
* food and drink – Specifically alcoholic drink. Merry's on top of it when it comes to feasting and drinking.
*maps – Merry pours himself over maps, he's practically obsessed with the “lay of the land”
*ponies – Well they're frickin cute AND useful!
*fireworks – Along with Pippin, Merry is probably most known in the Shire for his recent act in getting into Gandalf's fireworks and setting off a dazzling dragon.
*the Shire – He's very proud of his home.
dislikes,
*in between meal times – Why can't all times be eating times?
*being left out – This doesn't happen a lot because he's awesome, but Merry's big on being included.
*not being prepared – Well that's obvious isn't it? It's harder to face something if you're not prepared.
*being thought as incompetent – Merry is very bright and hates it when people think he's just a prankster
*being talked down to – He's a hobbit, not a child. Just because someone is taller doesn't mean they're allowed to treat him like a kid.
strengths,
*brave – He may be small, but he'll go right into a dangerous situation if it's called for
*loyal – He's got friends and he's true to them. He doesn't lie to them and he tries to help them if he can
*perceptive – Merry tends to notice things that a lot of other people don't notice.
*map reader – Merry spends his free time studying maps, so he's aware of the different locations in Middle-Earth
*party goer – This hobbit could make a profession out of attending parties. He can hold his food and drink very well.
weaknesses,
*staying out of trouble – He most definitely cannot do this.
*stubborn – Not always, but when he wants something, he'll work until he gets it.
*height – Especially with the mission he's on now, Merry's height is usually against him.
*childish – He can be very childish, despite the fact that he can also be very serious and intelligent.
*used to eating – Where he's from, food is in no shortage. Now he's faced with missing meals. Good thing he's more laid back about it than Pippin.
fears,
*being left behind – He's small, and not sure if he's only in the fellowship because of Gandalf or if people actually want him there
*losing Pippin – They're best friends. He feels like he's supposed to protect him.
*Being drastically changed – What happens when all of this is over? How could they go back to how things were before?
dreams, Merry has only ever had one goal in life: to be as happy as possible. That includes eating, drinking, spending time with friends, and of course, making life as exciting for people as possible with the jokes he plays with Pippin... actually, he teases Pippin quite a lot too.
personality,
Fun;;
This might as well be the first page in Merry's dictionary. The hobbit has really never had to work a day in his life and that's just fine with him. Instead he spends his days and nights eating and drinking and making people laugh. Life isn't worth living unless you enjoy it, right? His favorite past time is drinking his fill with Pippin at the pubs. He makes a lot of friends but he's really only got one best friend. Pippin is the one person Merry is most comfortable causing havoc with. The two have earned a sort of reputation as pranksters in the Shire, but people have fun and that's what matters.
Complex;;
Despite the fact that everyone thinks he's just some hobbit that goes around making people laugh, Merry can be quite contradictory. Most of the time he's a very laid-back sort of person. He tends to just go with the flow. He likes eating and drinking, but he can adjust easier to life without it than some (*cough* Pippin *cough*) can. But on the other side, he can be very stubborn. He will refuse to be left behind and insist that he's good enough to go wherever everyone else is going. He's also a very silly hobbit, but is no stranger to seriousness. He'd much prefer a fun conversation to a serious one, but he has brilliant moments of insight that comes out and random times.
Brave;;
Meriadoc is a very brave hobbit. He's small but he's got a lot of spirit. He is adamant about not being left out of a fight if it comes to it. Yes, he gets scared, but ultimately, the need to do what he thinks is right wins out over being afraid. He just doesn't want to be left out. If everyone he cares about is going to risk their lives, he's going to as well. It isn't a question of whether he might die, it's always just a matter of whether it is right to do what the others are doing or if it's the right thing to do to turn back and go home. In Merry's mind, as loyal as he is, what his friends are risking their life for is the right thing to do, just because they are his friends. But he recognizes the larger goal as well.

father, Saradoc Brandybuck, Master of Buckland
mother, Esmeralda Took
siblings, none, but Pippin is close enough
other figures, Frodo's really important to him. Almost as important as Pippin. And might as well through Sam in there as well. And, well, anyone who spends their nights at the pub.
lineage, The Shire
history,Meriadoc Brandybuck was the first and only child to Saradoc Brandybuck and Esmeralda Took. The parents had their hands full with Merry. He started joking around at an early age and always seemed to be getting into some sort of trouble. He didn't need any siblings; soon Merry was joined by his cousin, who ended up being more like a brother and definitely his best friend and partner in crime. The two made a name for themselves as trouble makers, though most hobbits seemed to realize it was all in good fun, and those who didn't, well, Merry didn't really care.
The problem with this trouble maker reputation was that Merry was also actually very perceptive and fairly smart. He spent several hours going over maps of Middle-Earth, memorizing where things were and different paths. As far as maps went Merry was very knowledgeable (it would turn out that traveling in real life was a lot different than staring at a map, but at least he had some idea of where they were). Merry also knew of the one ring before Bilbo even left Bag End. That didn't stop him from enjoying himself as much as he could, though.
Merry and Pippin eavesdropped on the meeting where it was decided that Frodo would take the ring to Mordor. There wasn't any question in Merry's mind – he and Pippin had to go with them. They were friends and friends didn't leave each other to do things like this on their own. Merry knew he had to look after Pippin. The two were so alike, but Merry was the older of the two, and Pippin being his cousin, best friend, and like a brother, was the most important thing to keep track of in Merry's mind. Pippin would need looking after. There was just one small problem with that: Merry was still quite childish himself.

rp sample,It seemed like in the Shire everyone was related. At least, anyone worth knowing. Merry was Pippin's cousin, and Frodo was related to Pippin by some degree and therefore was probably related to Merry somehow. He didn't know Sam's lineage at all, but he'd be willing to bet that somewhere along the line their families had crossed paths. It didn't really matter anyway though. With as many relatives as people had, if Merry said he was going to see his cousin people just assumed it was Pippin. Those two were so much alike that someone who didn't know them (not likely since they had a reputation) would think they were brothers, maybe even twins. Their personalities just meshed so well. Merry was lucky to have a cousin like Pip, since he didn't have any siblings, though Pip would probably gladly share his.
Currently, Meriadoc sat in a room covered in paper. Maps. They were everywhere. He'd been pouring over them for what felt like minutes but was really hours. This was one of Merry's favorite past times. He wasn't really sure why, but he found the maps fascinating. Maybe he had some deep down desire to explore said lands. He had really always loved Bilbo's stories. He used to listen to them with Pippin and Frodo. Thinking of Bilbo made Merry wonder if they'd ever see him again. Eleventy one years was a long time to live.
The hobbit looked up and decided that it was definitely time for a drink. Pippin would probably be at a local pub already. Though Merry hadn't been anywhere outside of the Shire, he was very sure that their ale was the best in all the lands. But any ale would do really. He headed for the door and walked the ways to the pub. After a while he made his way into the building and looked around. No Pippin yet, but the night was still young and Merry knew Pippin couldn't resist a good drink. Or a bad drink. So he ordered a drink and sat down at a table, watching as people entered and exited the pub. The only things that would make this better would be a few friends and a good smoke.
credit to phips, don't steal!
