» they have it out for me « » for the girls and the boys for the broken « As the rocks crashed down into the room, Ash grabbed the two hobbits that were in the way of the remnants of the cave ceiling and pulled them to safety. The dust hung in the air like a fog, making it hard to breathe. He squinted against the particles of rock, trying to scout a way out. However, his search was interrupted as the room started shaking, threatening them with another rockslide. He couldn't just leave the hobbits as they were; they'd die. However, he wouldn't be able to get out on his feet and he'd need his hands to steady himself. If he had a hobbit under each arm, he wouldn't be able to do that, and he'd probably fall over and kill them all. He didn't have time to just sit there and think about what he would do when the rest of the ceiling came down, though, so he quickly scouted out the part of the room they were in. There was an ominously dark tunnel to their left, and though he really didn't want to end up going in there, it was their only chance. Tunnels and doorways had less of a chance to come down in a cave in, and surely the dwarves would have made them as sturdy as possible when they'd settled Khazad-dûm.
The room's shaking was getting worse, and Ash couldn't risk it any longer. He picked up one of the hobbits and threw him towards the tunnel. The poor hobbit disappeared into the darkness, but he couldn't think about that anymore. He threw the second hobbit after the first, then made a mad dash towards the tunnel himself. He tripped and fell on his face, cutting his cheek on a sharp rock, but managed to get up and keep going, just managing to get his tail out of the rocks' way before he would be stuck under them. He took a deep breath, then immediately regretted it as the dust was still floating around and sent him into a coughing fit. When he recovered, he looked up at the two hobbits he'd sent flying into the tunnel, aware that, in the near darkness, they would be practically blind. His initial look around made him worry a bit, as there was no flammable material he could find. However, he still had a tentacle of octopus left; he'd just have to sacrifice it to make sure the hobbits would get out safely. He pulled it out and quickly set the tip aflame, not wanting them to see that he could breathe fire.
"Come on, hobbits," he said, standing up and holding the burning tentacle aloft. "We've got to figure out how to get out of here. Sounds of grunting and footsteps, their clumsy stride easily recognizable as goblin, came from the other end of the tunnel, echoing from the blackness. Ash groaned in protest. More things that were out to kill them? Really? He'd heard of a universal principle somewhere during his travels, and it went something like: "Everything that can go wrong will go wrong." At this moment, he felt like that principle was truth. Everything that could possibly have gone wrong was going wrong. And he really didn't know what to do about it. "Get behind me," he told the hobbits, giving the octopus lamp to one of them and drawing his mace. Things were going to get ugly.

Pippin could hear the telltale signs of a cave in happening he started scrambling about trying to find a place of refuge but to no avail. He felt someone grab him up and let out a slight yelp of surprise nearly sounding like a wild animal of sorts. He looked around through the chaos but all he could see was the other hobbit who had been picked up along with him. He tried to look up and see who was holding him but dust got in his eyes causing them to start watering. Then the debris got into his lungs and he started to cough making them water even more.
He felt a sudden weightlessness as he was suddenly tossed into darkness. For a moment there he thought that he had suddenly learned to fly, that or the person holding him had dropped him down a dark abyss. However the feel of solid rock underneath him finally told him that he had in fact been tossed. He let out a slight Umph as he hit the tunnel floor and he rolled over and groaned. "Oi. That was unpleasant." he moaned as he rubbed his sore bottom. "Where are we?" he asked the other hobbit before hearing the sound of his rescuer as he lit something on fire. "Aye, who's that?" he asked blinking away the tears from his watery eyes. Then he saw who it was and frowned. "Oh, it's you. I thought maybe it was Strider." he murmured disappointingly.
He slowly pushed himself to his feet as Ash told them to come on, and dusted himself off. However the sound of shuffling feet caused him to look up in alarm and freeze in his tracks. He knew those weren't hobbit steps, because hobbits were too stealthy to sound so clumsy. When Ash told them to get behind him, Pippin followed his order without a word taking the tentacle in his hand and making a grossed out face. He shuddered silently but didn't say anything as he followed stealthily behind Ash and Sam.

Sam stood, frozen, watching in horror as the roof above him began to collapse. It was as if Death was mocking him waiting for the right moment to finish Sam off. As his death approached, Sam’s life began to flash through his eyes. The memories came to a halt when Sam was lifted off his feet by a mysterious creature. The spot where Sam once stood vanished as the room plunged into complete darkness. Something must have hit the creature holding him for the two of them toppled over onto the floor. Sam heard another voice in the room but was not able to make it out. As another quake began, more rocks hit the floor in incredible speeds. Sam knew that when someone is dead, they wouldn’t hear anything, see anything, or feel anything, and that is exactly how he felt right now as he was thrown into the air. Chaos arose but he didn’t know where he was headed as he flew through the darkness. With a thump he hit the floor almost losing consciousness as another person began to speak. All Sam could hear through his right ear was mumbling so he assumed he must have landed on that side of his head. He pulled himself onto his feet and released a sigh of pain. A light appeared from behind him and Sam began to see the silhouette of Pippin. “Thank goodness it’s you; I thought there was something else with us when the roof came down. I wasn’t able to tell if it was a friend or foe.” Pippin seemed relieved until his attention turned to something behind Sam. It was still too dark to see anything but the light seemed to be coming from the thing walking towards the two Hobbits. As the creature came closer, Sam was able to identify the creature as Ash. Still cautious about Ash’s loyalty, Sam began to complain, “You could have killed us!” Sam face produced a frown as Ash ignored him while requesting that the two Hobbits follow him so they can find a way out. Sam, still regaining focus, heard footsteps from a distance while Ash warned the Hobbits to get behind him. Sam darted behind him waiting for what lurked beyond the darkness.

» they have it out for me « » for the girls and the boys for the broken « Ash smiled sympathetically. "No, Pippin, I'm afraid I'm not Strider," he replied, feeling a little upset that the hobbit was actually disappointed. In this sort of a situation, Ash was probably the best person among the Fellowship to have around, maybe besides Gandalf. However, he doubted the hobbits knew that, as this was the first real fight they'd had since Ash had joined up with the Fellowship. He'd show them, though. He'd show them how good he was. Then maybe he'd get some approval around here.
Boromir seemed to hate his guts, which he didn't mind so much, as the man was stupid and Ash didn't really want to talk to him anyway, lest he catch the stupid Boromir exuded. Gandalf seemed to know a lot more than he was letting on, which was quite a bit frustrating at the very least. Aragorn was sort of the strong, silent type, and so didn't talk much. Gimli was, simply put, a characteristic dwarf. The hobbits tended to keep to themselves, but Pippin had an insatiable curiosity, which Ash loved about him. Frodo, on the other hand, stayed away from everyone, including the other hobbits. And Legolas, the only one who actually knew anything about him (other than Gandalf, of course, who seemed to know everything), was a pretty good guy.
Back to the task at hand. Sammich, as Ash had aptly named him, was more than just disappointed. As soon as he got to his feet and brushed himself off, he was complaining his little hobbit head off about the fact that Ash could have killed them with that toss. Ash merely rolled his eyes and gestured to the now blocked off tunnel entrance. "You're welcome," he replied exasperatedly. If he hadn't tossed the hobbits into the tunnel, they would have been crushed under the weight of the ceiling. A "could have," when it comes to death and the process of it, was better than a definitive "is," or even a "would have." However, he didn't really expect the chunky hobbit to realize that, having lived in such a peaceful place as the Shire for all of his young life. He'd come to realize it soon enough, though. The world was a scary place for one as small as a hobbit.
"Stay there," he cautioned to the hobbits as the goblins drew nearer. It was a narrow enough tunnel that he could keep the creatures away from the hobbits on his own. With that in mind, he charged the goblins, kicking one in the head and smashing another in the gut with his mace. The mass of goblins fell back a bit, but quickly renewed their attack on him. He easily parried their weapons, using their momentum to bash them back into the mass of creatures. He just hoped that there would be some end to them, otherwise Ash might not last long enough to get them out without revealing his draconic nature to the hobbits. And he really didn't want to do that. Pippin might be alright with it, but Sammich would definitely hate him. That wouldn't be good.

Pippin continued to massage his sore backside as he listened to Sam talk to Ash. He could tell that the other hobbit was a bit off from the toss and waved the tentacle around in the air wondering if he could make a shape with the flame. He looked back behind them when Ash gestured towards the caved in room at the end of the tunnel and his eyes widened before turning to look at Sam. "We'd have been some wee hobbits if he hadn't Sam." Pippin said as he heard his stomach growl. "In fact we may be anyway soon. I'm starving." he groaned.
However all thoughts of food were swayed when he looked down the tunnel to see Ash charge after the goblins. He suddenly remembered his hobbit sword that Strider had given him when they were on Weathertop and unsheathed it waving it around and watching the light from the flames reflect off of it. He smiled and did a quick eyebrow raise before looking up at Sam. "Do you think he'll be all right?" he asked.
Suddenly realization dawned on him as he looked around the tunnel and didn't see anyone else. "Oi, where's Frodo?" he said, his voice slightly panicked. "Do you think he's all right Sam?" he asked wide eyed looking over at the other hobbit. "I hope the others are okay. I don't like this one bit." he said more to himself then anyone else.

As Pippin began to ask about Ash’s safety, Sam started ranting on about how Ash is untrustworthy, “Of all people, you are worried about his safety, he is only a prisoner. Ash is not reliable at all. For all we know, he could end up turning around and running towards us with that mace of his!” After an awkward pause, Sam answered the question about the others to his best ability, knowing only as much as Pippin knew, “I am sure the others will be all right. Besides, they have Aragorn and Legolas to help them through it.” Too afraid to say it aloud, Sam wasn’t even sure that the rest of them weren’t crushed all together by the cave-in. Sam looked over his shoulder seeing Ash fighting with all the goblins while the two of them stood there chatting away. Sam thought to himself, might as well go help him. Sam threw his bag to the ground and opened it, hoping to find the sword his was given by Aragorn. By the third sweep of his bag, Sam began to panic, “I can’t find my sword! I don’t know where it went; last time I checked it was in my bag. What if it fell out when Ash threw us through the air?” Sam mumbled to himself that if Ash hadn’t thrown them, Sam wouldn't have lost his sword and would have been of some help. Hoping for the best, Sam took one more look into his bag. Of all the things he could have spotted, he saw the frying pan. Sam rose the pan into the air as if it were some kind of holy item, and began sneaking around the chaos around Ash. He made his way to the back of the battle and with one quick swipe, he knocked one of the goblins out senseless. A grin appeared on Sam's face as he silently approached the next victim.

Running towards them with his mace? Pippin followed the other hobbit's eyes."Oh I don't know about that, Sam,"he waved off the concern, "He seems pretty busy with the goblins to me." He watched as Ash skillfully took down one goblin after another. He may not have been Strider, but Pippin reckoned that he put up as good as a fight. As another thought made its way up to his mind and he wrinkled his nose and nodded back at Sam solemnly. "Could have left us in the rockslide too, if he really wanted to be done with us. I mean that's awful good behavior for a prisoner and we don't even know what he did wrong." It was true. Ash had sort of just.. ended up with them. He didn't know the whole story, but he knew that if he'd done anything really bad, Strider and Gandalf wouldn't have allowed him so much freedom. He hadn't done anything wrong. In fact, Pippin thought he did something quite, saving his and Sam's lives and all.
He bit down on his lip, not completely settled by but with nothing else to hope for than what Sam replied to him about the others. If they were okay, they had Strider and Legolas and Boromir and Gimli and Gandalf, and none of those people would ever let anything happen to Merry and Frodo. If he and Sam could manage with just themselves and Ash surely the other group would be just fine."You're probably right." Probably. His eyebrow quirked up as Sam started panicking about his sword. "You probably didn't have your bag closed well- oh that's clever!" While he was speaking Sam had pulled out his frying pan and though normally he'd tease his friend about this (or ask him to make breakfast), he couldn't think of a better weapon to brandish when your sword was..somewhere else.
But then Sam was gone. Going off to fight goblins. "Oi.." They certainly couldn't have expected him to stay by himself. Sure, Ash had told them too but Sam hadn't listened, and Samwise was the responsible one. Pippin hardly ever listened, and he certainly never stayed put when there was exciting things going on. He held up the sword in one hand and the flaming tentacle in the other and edged a few steps closer to where Sam and Ash were. Some of the goblins were slipping past their line of defense and coming towards him. He imagined he had to look an awful lot like a real adventurer right now, waiting for them like that. He swung at the first one that tried to attack him, catching it in the neck."I got one!" his eyes went wide and he grinned as it fell to the floor. He needed to tell Merry. Show Merry. As soon as they got out...Which would happen... Because it had to.
OOC: 'Tis Phips, filling in. Hopefully my Pippin isn't dreadful xD

Approaching the next victim, Sam lifted his frying pan for the strike and swung with all his might. Unfortunately, the creature side-stepped his attack and the frying pan went flying into the distance. Sam hopped that it did not hit either of the others but if he had to choose, it would be Ash. He heard a yell followed by a lot more goblin noises. Sam chased after the scream until he saw Ash holding the pan looking like he wanted to toss it back at me. With a smirk, Sam grabbed for his pan before Ash could react and ran back into battle. He felt safe until the smash of one of the goblins fist hit him off-guard. He knew it was all over for him again, or at least until something sent the goblin flying through the hall. Deciding to follow Ash’s first set of orders, Sam ran for him hopping his giant body would protect him from any more harm. He looked back to see he was being followed but his speed came to a complete halt when Sam’s body came in contact with the wall. In an instant, Sam was back on the floor barely holding consciousness hoping that the battle would be over soon. The small battle seemed fun at first but as the army grew, it became like a small flame in large grassland waiting to cause a forest fire. Slowly, all light in the cave began to drift away as Sam began to slip from the room into a deep sleep. He heard shouts as the battle continued but all sounds disappeared. Sam could not see nor hear anything going on. His body went numb and all he could assume was he was dead.
