Legolas had not planned ahead of time on making the trip to Imladris. It had been a rather last moment descisions that he volenteered to go in place of another member of Mirkwood Guard and thus, his arrival had not been expected or prepared by anyone. Lord Elrond, of course, had been as welcoming as Legolas remembered him as upon his arrival, and the first of which he revealed his identity to when performing the duty which the origional intendee had been sent to do. He requested if he might stay for a few days in the homely city and it was almost immediatly after he found himself off and searching for familiar faces.
He'd come across many people who knew him, only some of whom he recognized himself, and many whom hed been looking for, lord Elrond's sons included. It was nearly evening yet he realized he had not yet heard word of or from Arwen, and so he approached one who he was sure worked under the house and asked if they might know where he'd find the Lady. He was directed about through the halls and to a door which he was uncertain if led to Arwens actual room or just a room for something in which she may have spent time. Though not his first trip there was much he had not yet gotten to see in the elven reprieve. The woman whod accompanied him knocked on the door. "My Lady, you have a visitor." Legolas nodded appreciatively and thanked her as she took a step away from the opening door. "My Lady," he greeted Arwen in a similar manner, though the formality slightly exagerated in a way that only she might catch enough to be amused by, while the woman still watching would be left with a better impression of the young upper class elves as she waited to be dismissed.

The elven princess had not roamed the halls and gardens as she tended to do nearly every evening once the evening meal had concluded. This time she was settled in a chair in front of the fire with a length of white cloth settled over her lap and a needle in hand. Her dark head was bowed as she worked by fire and candlelight though as the knock sounded on the door Arwen paused and glanced up. The voice sounded telling her that she had a visitor and she bid the servant to allow them to enter the room. Those silvery gray eyes widened only slightly as Legolas was revealed and a smile curved her lips as he spoke. The princess’ private sitting room that branched off her bedroom was done in light colors and furniture though the evening had turned the wood silvery. Arwen rose gracefully from her chair and set the length of white cloth down revealing that she wore a dark blue gown with silver embroidery this evening. “My lord. Gîl síla na lû govaded.” (A star shines on the time of our meeting.) Arwen replied back before she was nodding to the servant so the woman could go ahead and leave them be. When the door was closed the dark haired woman moved forward and took Legolas’ hands in her own as she smiled. “I did not expect you to come to Imladris yourself.” She replied as she let his hands go and moved to a table in the corner, which held goblets and a pitcher of clear water. “Tell me, what did you have to tell your father for him to allow you to come?” She inquired as she poured two goblets and gestured for him to follow her out onto the balcony so they could enjoy the view and speak.

Legolas entered the room at Arwen's request, offering her a slight smile in return to her comment. "That it does." he agreed. He watched out of the corner of his eye the servant woman take her leave and Arwen take his hands in hers a they moved to stand not in front of the door. The young night made the room shine a silvery color and Arwen in her radiance looked not a slight bit out of place. She told him she had not expected him and he smiled once more. "Surprise."
The next question he was glad she'd allowed him a moments pause in replying to as they walked out to the balcony. His father.. That was a manner one had to be particularly cautious around. Though well intentioned, Thranduil was terse in his relations with most out of his kingdom and wary of the outside world which Legolas in contrast was so in awe and wonder about. "I told him very little until after I had already relieved the messanger of his post." he admitted, slyly but sheepishly, unsure whether he was to be as proud of the set up as he had been when he accomplished it or acknowledging that his father had reasons for his refusal that may have been wiser than Legolas assumed. "I expect I'll have much more to tell upon my return."
Shaking his head slighty, he diverted some attention to the sights Arwen's balcony give a clear view of. There seemed not a place in the city you could stand and not be greeted with something pleasing to the senses. It was clear why people of all sorts wished to see the place at least once and why it was an ideal spot for healing of the mind and body. It was enchanting in a very sublte way. "And what of you?" he asked as he looked back to the fair elf aside him "How have you been?"

A light laugh broke from Arwen's lips at Legolas' words concerning her not knowing that he was coming and her silvery eyes sparkled for a moment before losing that radiance. She listened to him speak of how his father had reacted and gave a nod and a smile as Legolas said he would have more to tell. Indeed he would given the fact that this journey would not take mere days but much much longer then that. When the golden haired elven prince inquired as to how she was doing Arwen bowed her head slightly and stared down at the stone under her slippered feet. She knew that Legolas and Aragorn were friends, and that the elf wouldn't let anything happen to her love, but that didn't get rid of the worry and fear.
"Truth be told I wish to be going with all of you." She admitted softly as she glanced up to meet Legolas' eyes before looking away. "I do not wish to remain here worrying about if all of you are safe or not." The princess could fight and had risked her life to bring Frodo here to Rivendell where he would be safe and get the help he needed. She showed no fear in the face of the black riders and had even outsmarted them at the river. Still she knew that her father would not allow her to charge off into battle once again to help and it frustrated the woman. Her father did not agree with a lot of what she wished to do though that did not lessen Arwen's love for him in the least. "Please....." The princess breathed out as she turned and grabbed Legolas' hands in her smaller slender ones. "Please keep Aragorn safe." She knew there was no reason to ask it, that Legolas would do just that. but Arwen couldn't help doing so.

At Arwen's word he sombered slightly, truth be told having expected very little of the events that came to pass since his arrival in the great city. The Ringbearers arrival and the council's descision had not been things he planned for, yet he couldnt help but think - but hope - that they happened when and how they did for a reason. That it was for the better that his strong reaction to what happened in his home and his need to do something about him brought him to Imladris, whather against the wishes os his father or otherwise. He had not taken a second thought in pledging himself to the fellowship and would not for he knew in his heart that the choice he made had been the right one. Yet he took for granted the choice that Arwen had not been given.
"It is for the better.." he said after she was done, voice soft but resolute. The smile peaked again slightly and he attempted to make light, "For my sake, if no one elses. Aragorn would think of little more than your safety, you little more than his, and I would need to pull you both out of whatever trouble your well-intentioned altruism would undoubtably get you into." And he didnt doubt it in the least. Arwen was not incapable, invalid, or in any way lesser than the fellowship- in fact, compared to some people.. Well. But her talents were needed from afar, and her and Aragorn could not aford to distract each other.
Holding her hands, he made her look into his eyes before speaking again. "I would not allow any harm come to him, Arwen." Not to her lover, not to the future ruler of Gondor, but more than that, not to his friend. He would follow the ranger to whatever ends, whatever adventure, and he would lay down his life for the man as easily as he knew Aragorn would do so for one he cared about. "You need not ask me. He will be safe. He will come home. I promise you that."

Legolas’ words of her remaining behind being the best thing did cause something to flare in the princess’s silvery eyes for a moment before it died and she was nodding her head. She knew he was right of course, if she went with them it would end up causing more problems, she would forever worry about her beloved. Legolas voicing this with a smile had Arwen smiling as well and a very light laugh escaped her. She would not have wanted to be a burden of any kind on the fellowship and her presence would do so probably for more then just Aragorn. “You speak truth of course I simply do not want to feel useless while you are all out there risking your lives.” She had done so herself to bring Frodo here and though she had not forgotten that she did not speak of it. When Legolas caught her gaze and their eyes remained locked Arwen didn’t realize at first that she was holding her breath. The golden haired elven prince spoke then of not letting anything happen to Aragorn and relief washed over the she elf’s face. Her hand moved from his hands to cup the sides of his face and she leaned up to press a gentle kiss to his forehead before letting her friend go. “Thank you…I believe and trust that you will do just that. I fear for all of you Legolas not just him.” She replied hoping he did realize that it was not just Aragorn she would worry about and wish to come home safely. “This task is dangerous and I cannot help fearing there will be losses I simply do not know who it will be. However I will pray for all of you and do my best to not disobey my father again and follow you.”

Legolas was glad that Arwen laughed in return. He'd been worried his intentions may have been misinterpreted. He in truth also did not want to have to worry about Arwen's safety on top of Aragorn's, Mithrandir's, the ringbearer, and the rest of their fellowship. As she said, loss in their journey was not something unexpected, but the less there were the less chances more might perish. Arwen had a lover, a father, and many friends who would not do well to see the Evenstar done away from life. But he could understand exactly where she was coming from. It was hard to be ordered to do nothing. "Those not in the fellowship are not useless. You may have a different part to play, but it's no less important," he told her. Life was a risk in itself regardless of the effort one put to end it faster these days. He knew Arwen, and he knew that Arwen would not sit idly regardless of her instructions. If there was not a part made for her to play she would make one herself.
He smiled slightly at her notable relief, nodding in understanding to her words. "Of course, but those of us who are departing are more than aware of the risk, and ready to do what we have to to bring peace to Middle Earth." Whether for their friends, their families, their homelands, they'd all pledged themselves to this with complete understanding to the fact that they might die. They might see things worse than death. Yet if they did nothing, the outcome would be no better. "I'm no model of obeying my father's wishes," he said slowly, "I can not, with full honesty, advise you to do the same. Our people have seen this war long and your father means well in keeping you out of it. But with all due respect, they are wrong in thinking it is less our problem than anyone elses." No, they saw it's start, and Legolas believed they should see it through. He would no depart Middle Earth, not yet, and he he knew the same was true for Arwen. "Follow not the fellowship Arwen, but what you know is right."

Arwen listened to the golden haired elven man beside him and gave a nod as she let go of his hands and leaned against one of the pillars that marked the entrance to her chambers. “I suppose you are right, but then nothing you have said tonight has been false.” The dark haired princess replied softly. As he spoke of the fellowship knowing the risks Arwen’s gaze dropped from the view before her to the ground. When she had found out Aragorn had joined the fellowship to help get rid of the One Ring Arwen had not wept or pleaded with him to stay she had instead attempted to calm and ease any fears and worries he had. She had done what she believed was right and hoped she had helped him. Aragorn was so unsure of himself and his path in life that he often strayed into the shadows and could not find his way out again. As Legolas spoke of not being a good dutiful son and obeying his father the elven princess did smile and her head lifted once more so their eyes met. She understood what he was saying in not wanting to tell her to do what her father had forbid her from doing. At the same time she knew he was aware of her talents and willingness to do her part in helping to save Middle Earth. Yes her father meant well and Arwen saw this, but she also believed she could make a difference, and that he wasn’t allowing her to do so. Legolas’ last words to her however had the princess catching and holding his gaze for several seconds before she was nodding in agreement. “Le Hannon.” (Thank you) she replied softly with a soft smile.
