Another day had dawned in Rohan. Normally, Grima spent most of his days sitting beside King Theoden. Every time someone came in to speak with the King, whether it was a rider with some urgent message or a peasant with a question or a concern, Grima was the one who answered them. Sometimes the King spoke a few words but they never mattered much. Grima was essentially in charge of all of the doings going on in Rohan, and those who knew that couldn't do anything about it.
But, instead of heading to his usual spot right away this morning, Grima decided to step outside for a moment. He squinted his eyes against the bright light of the sun, which was in stark contrast with the dark hall he spent so much of his time in. He pulled his black robe closer to his body as the cold breeze picked up, masking some of the warmth of the sun. Grima gazed down at the village below and then let his eyes stray further out to the huts scattered across the plain. When he had been growing up out there in one of those small huts, Grima had never imagined that one day his life would lead him to being the trusted adviser of the King sitting in Meduseld.
His reminiscing was cut short by the tinny voice of a woman. "Excuse me, sir?" Grima's eyes drifted over to her--a peasant wearing clothes that looked like they were only weeks away from being unwearable. "What can I help you with?" Grima inquired in a kind and gentle voice. The smile on his face was just barely enough to hide the anger in his eyes at having been interrupted so quickly on this fine morning. "I need to see the King," she replied. "One moment while I go and see if the King is available or indisposed." That was a formality that Grima didn't need to look into. What the King was didn't matter. King Theoden was powerless.
Grima walked back into the hall and halfway up to the throne with the old King sitting on it. He only needed to take one glance at Theoden to know that the King was very much indisposed to talk to anyone today. But Grima remained where he was for a few minutes to make it appear that he had actually had a conversation with Theoden about the peasant waiting to come in and see him. Fixing his most sorrowful expression on his face, Grima turned around to head back outdoors. The woman was still standing where he had left her. "I'm sorry but the King is busy. He said, however, that he will make sure that he is available for you later this evening."
After her 'thanks' were said the woman left Grima standing at the top of the stairs by himself. It was almost too easy fooling these people. To think he had grown up in a country where others could be so gullible. Maybe Saruman was right in wanting to destroy Rohan...No. Grima couldn't think that. Maybe the smartest creatures didn't inhabit Rohan but it was still his homeland. As soon as he had his promised reward--the hand of Éowyn--he was going to turn his homeland back into the glorious country it had once been.

Eadwyn was concerned for Eowyn, her lady was very worried over her cousin having been sent into battle and when Eowyn would rather risk her own life than see her brother or cousin go into battle it was hard to keep the woman calm and collected which let’s face it, she had to do all the time. It only troubled her mind more when she saw Grima Wormtongue watching everyone especially Eowyn, the man was vile and too cunning for his own good.
She was in the process of taking some warm water to Eowyn when she spotted the very dark ill content slimy skinned man she had been loathing a moment ago. The very sight of him made her skin crawl and wish her bowl of warm water was hot so she could tip it all over him and watch him wither in pain like he deserved… or so she thought he deserved. Her eyes studied him for a moment as her own darkness and frown spread across her face before she continued on her path to Eowyn’s chambers.
They were lighter than many other chambers in the castle as Eadwyn made sure of that, always leaving the curtains open and letting in some fresh air and golden light, she attempted it to keep Grima out as he always seemed to dwell in the darkness so Eadwyn attempt to lock Eowyn in the light and get her out of the castle as much as possible, how could anyone not want to be outside when the kingdom of Rohan was at their doorstep, when such beauty and golden fields and smiling faces awaited them. Of course that did not include Grima, oh no that man was more a creature of shadow than a man of Rohan. The very thought of Grima had her wanting to enter the sun herself so while Eowyn kept to herself she left her lady to exit the castle for but a little and soak some sunlight up into her clothes and her skin. What she did not expect was to exit the building and see Grima dismissing a woman which made her frown even more. Eadwyn made a silent note to herself to inform Eowyn to contact the woman and see if she could help her a little bit.
“I know what you did Wormtongue” she said though she knew very little in this matter actually, she knew he had been approaching the King but if he had in fact spoken to the King was another matter, she simply stepped into the light her hands by her side as she watched the horrid man before her “Do you honestly believe you can continue your path without someone noticing something?” she questioned raising an eyebrow slightly before her attention grew to people and land before them both. If Grima was starting to wandered outside she’d have to work on something to either have him running for the hills or hiding inside, these people did not need to be scared with his presence. “It is a lovely day, is it not Wormtongue?” she questioned her dark eyes drifting to him once more before leaving his face, she could not stand to look at the man so dark and dangerous.

The new found peace and silence didn't last very long as he heard a familiar voice break it. Eadwyn...Eowyn's serving lady and one of the few people in Rohan who actually suspected Grima of having something to do with the King's decline. It looked like Grima wasn't going to catch any breaks today but that was okay with him; he thrived best when he was challenged to act the innocent adviser accused of wrongdoings he would never commit.
And his brow did furrow appropriately as Eadwyn told him she knew what he had just done. "I have no idea what you are talking about," he said, his cultured voice filled with just the right amount of confusion. And then came the even bigger accusation from Eadwyn's mouth. "My path is serving the King, and I hope others notice my good deeds." He couldn't help but smile inwardly to himself at those last two words...Good deeds, indeed; it all depended on which side one decided to look at everything.
If Eadwyn wanted him to live, he wasn't going to be so easy to get rid of. He knew his presence could be unnerving to everyone who ever laid eyes on him but that was half of the fun. Let them all be afraid to look on him; let them avert their eyes and scamper away in fear. They could be afraid of him all they wanted to be but that never seemed to be enough to get them to air their suspicions. Only the very few were brave enough to do that and even less of those few were corageous enough to say the things that Eadwyn was saying to his face right now. "It is a most beautiful day," he responded, glancing up into the nearly cloudless sky. "Is there something you wanted besides using your wild imagination to falsely accuse me?"
