Saerwen
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn to cry
full name, Saerwen
nicknames, only those closest to her call her Saer
age, Saerwen was born in the Second Age, in the year 3400, making her 3,059 years old.
class/profession, rogue elf, works for highest bidder
marital status, single
race, elf
alliance, Saerwen remains neutral for convenience sake, and since she doesn't really trust either side. She will choose whichever one suits her at the time, and if anyone's in a hurry to make her decide, she'll switch to the other just to spite those people.
hair, her hair is a very dark shade, appearing black for the most part, and it falls down to the small of her back in waves. Sometimes Saerwen will tie it up to keep it out of her face in different intricate ways to make herself look powerful.
eyes, Her eyes are a piercing shade of green. They show intelligence, but also a great sorrow that will not disappear.
build and body, 5' 6'', thin and graceful, no different from the rest of her kin
anything else, She is pale as moonlight, and because of this, her scars appear more present. She has a scar on her back, and one along her left arm, and then a final large scar on her right leg. Not all of them may be noticed, but they all are fairly noticeable on her fair skin tone.
face claim, Katie McGrath

likes, revenge, to avenge those that are important to her, or those that ask her to avenge them, she relishes the opportunity to return the favor and go out and destroy those who have destroyed other's lives. Her favorite moment is when she attacks those people and they beg her to stop or offer her all the most delightful things in the world and ignoring their requests.
fighting, it allows her to test her strength, to prove herself, and whenever possible, to vanquish her enemies. She enjoys the rush of the battle, even though war is mostly the affair of men, she refuses to sit by and watch. She likes to prove her abilities, and show that it doesn't need to be dominated by men only.
nature, she may not follow the ways of her kin, or do what they think is best, but she will always be fond of nature, the trees, the flowers, all of it. It is in the nature of the elves to love nature, and that part has not died in Saerwen, even if some have their doubts.
music, ever since she was young, she loved music and everything to do with it. Whenever she has some time, she'll settle somewhere and listen to someone play a song, or sing her own that she might come up with on a whim, or one that she remembers from earlier days.
healing, many may not know of this, that she does enjoy healing others and helping them as much as she does destroying some. It is a strange difference of purpose, but she has the ability to heal, and uses it when she wants to, but she does like it when she is able to help save someone's life. Saewen just chooses not to most of the time.
dislikes, relying on others, Saerwen has a motto, and it's quite simple. Don't rely on other people. As soon as other people are involved, the more likely someone will mess up and whatever it is they're trying to accomplish will fail. In her mind it is better to take more time to do a task herself, than to ask others for help.
men, Saerwen believes that many of them are arrogant, and because it is their fault the ring endures, she can't help but think they are fools and not worth her time. The fact that most of them would also no doubt underestimate her as a warrior also irritates her. She does her best to avoid them, or if she can't do that, treat them with little to no respect.
the dark lord, sure, Sauron is evil, and out to destroy everyone, so Saewen isn't a supporter of him. That, and it was because of the fight against him that her love was killed, so she's not particularly appreciative of him. But she also has no hope that he will be defeated, so she won't go against him very willingly, unless the benefit is great.
her kin, and likewise, she does not care much for her own kin. The elves were never particularly kind to her in her time of grief, and she cannot forgive them for having slain her brother. It doesn't matter what he might have done, he was her brother, and that they killed him angers her more than anything else.
dwarves, there is no particularly traumatic event or anything that causes her dislike of the dwarves, but she has met them before, and everything about them just irks her. Their destruction of nature, and their harsh sounding tongue. She just doesn't like them at all. In fact, there is no chance for her to have a polite conversation with them unless forced by sword point.
strengths, horseback riding, Saerwen has a natural talent on a horse. She's good with reassuring the creatures, and very much capable of riding one through almost any terrain. She can tame even the most unruly of steeds, and frequently chooses the more difficult to tame, because in the end she feels their trust will then be much greater then that of an average horse. Saer loves the animals, and takes time out of what she needs to do to take care of whatever horse she has at the time. She may not be a rider of Rohan, but she can hold her own amongst them if she wants.
healing, a talent that many elves have inherited before, Saerwen has a gift for healing. She may not be as good as someone such as Lord Elrond, but she can do enough to keep someone alive until that person is brought to a place of healing. And in some instances she can outright heal a person, but it depends on how grievous the wound is.
swordfighting, she is not an archer like many of her kin, but she has a talent with the sword. A knack for it really. Saerwen is quite capable of defending herself and others with her ability, since she has been training with the sword for several thousands of years.
lying, after many years of living on her own, the idea of her simply being honest to anyone she came across was foolish. Saerwen has needed to be able to lie to people to keep herself safe. It also has helped her do the various jobs that people asked of her. Many were less than pleasant dealings, and being able to lie her way out of situations was extremely important.
loyal, It may seem unbelievable, with the fact that she never chooses a side to fight for, or one particular standpoint on the issue of good versus evil. But when she is close to someone, she is devoted to that person, and will never betray him or her. It may take quite some time for her to trust anyone, but once she does, she will protect that person and always be loyal to them.
weaknesses, trust issues, it is very difficult for Saerwen to trust anyone, and because of that, she either always has a hand on her sword hilt, or her sword out in general, just in case someone were foolish enough to test her. She is not someone you want to betray or offend, because she will hold that against you for years to come.
bitterness, Saerwen's deep seated bitterness at the way things have happened to her family affects all of her dealings, and has in many cases caused her more problems than anything else. She still suffers from the grief of losing her brother and her almost betrothed. That grief leads her to do all manner of reckless things that really does no one any good, and risks her own life above anyone else's. But she can't stop herself.
Hot-tempered, most elves have the tendency of being less emotional, and being more distant from the regular sufferings of the world. But Saerwen is very emotional, and is easily upset. She has always felt things very strongly, and it has only become worse since those closest to her died. She is far more inclined to fight than others, because she feels that she has to. She will defend herself and her opinions, and all that matters to her.
archery, to her shame, she has never been able to pick up the bow as well as many of her kin. It has been the cause of great frustration on her part, but she has learned to accept that she is better with the sword. It still hurts her pride though when she sees other elves who have mastered the bow.
her love for animals, sometimes it can cloud her judgement, because it would be far less dangerous for her in some situations to just be rid of a horse and leave it somewhere and continue on foot, but she can't bring herself to do so. It has frequently had her caught in bad situations where she had to quickly come up with a way to get herself and the horse out of there.
fears,
-to lose anyone else that is important to her
-to fall in love again, as it will only lead to more suffering in her eyes
dreams,
-to be able to finally forget her pain and move forward
-to make a difference in Middle Earth
personality,Saerwen's name itself means bitter, and that is a great part of her personality. She is still hurting and grieving over her brother and her lover's deaths. Many years may have passed since they had passed from this life, but it still lingers in her heart and mind. It is thanks to this that she has come to be neutral in the ways of the world, because she feels no great love for either side. Sauron's armies destroyed her love, and her kin her brother, so she feels no affection for either. She works with both of them however as this is the way she can survive in this world. Since Saerwen is frequently on her own, she has come to rely on herself for everything. She can't trust anyone easily, and she chooses to stay away from many of the bigger cities and such to avoid dealing with too many people. Saerwen has no one but herself to live for anymore, and therefore does everything based on her own self-interest. If she thinks it'd be better for her to help someone than to just ignore someone, she will do so, but she does not go out on a limb for just anyone. She usually expects some type of reward for her efforts.
Saerwen tends to appear two-faced to people, just because people don't expect her to have no allegiances and help both sides of the war. The fact of the matter is that she just doesn't care enough. Both sides of hurt her and because of it she won't put all her effort into helping either of them. She will give one side a helpful tip one day, and then suddenly turn and offer some fact that she's learned about them to the other side. It seems very backstabbing, but since she works only for herself, she doesn't care. Her purpose is to make a living, and when that means selling someone out in favor for more of a gain, she will do so. At the same time though, if someone has gained her trust, which is a very difficult thing to do, there is no power in this world that could force Saer to work against that person. Once her trust has been won, she will defend that person until the end. So she does have a sense of loyalty, but with her it takes a much greater time before it forces her decision in any permanent way.
Saerwen doesn't fit in anywhere, and with that, it makes her very lonely, although she would never admit that to anyone. She tends to keep to herself except for when she's doing a job, or forced to by traveling in the same direction as someone else. Deep down though, she longs to settle down with someone as she always wanted when she was younger. And though she feels she deserves happiness just like everyone else, she doesn't care enough to try to find someone. Another part of it is that she dreads the day when she might find that important person and end up losing him again. Saer would not be able to handle that a second time. And so she chooses to block people out of her life and live that of a lone figure racing back and forth through Middle-Earth.

father, Melcindómien, tense since their severed ties, used to be very close, left for the undying lands.
mother, Faelwen, was always very close to her, forgave Saerwen, and became one of the few Saer's trusted, but also left for the undying lands.
siblings, Dûrion, her older brother, deceased, she used to admire him greatly, and learned many things from him, until he turned out to be a traitor and tried to help the dark lord rise until an elf of Lothlorien killed him.
other figures, Veryan, deceased, was the one elf she believed she could love for all her long life, but was unfortunately killed in the battle against Sauron.
lineage, Mirkwood
history, Saerwen was born in the Second Age of Middle Earth in the year of 3400. She was born in Mirkwood, a land that diminished because of Sauron's take over for some time. Saerwen was the second child born to Faelwen and her husband Melcindómien. Her brother Dûrion was born 50 years prior, and had been her parents pride and joy. He was already a marvel on the battlefield, and fought many battles. Saerwen was their angel, her beauty already impressed many at a young age. Saerwen spent her youth playing songs and enjoying nature, and learning to fight and ride a horse despite her parents telling her that her life would be more suited towards healing. All the while the elves were all preparing for the last battle against Sauron to drive him out of Middle Earth for good. When he was not away in these battles, he spent time with Saerwen, teaching her the tactics of battle, the strategies, and how to wield a sword in comparison to a bow. He was the one who taught her how to fight originally, and to both of their disappointment, the bow never took on. But her ability with the sword turned out to be impressive enough.
Not long after that, she met another young elf, who was eager to prove himself in battle. His name was Veryan, and although he was a bit older than her, they formed a bond with their shared passion towards everything. Both of them were slightly hot-headed, and wanted to leave Mirkwood in order to see what it was that created such darkness. They understood the dangers out in the world, but they were also foolish enough to believe that it would not come to them. And perhaps for Saerwen they didn't, because her parents did not allow her to try to help save Middle Earth. Veryan would go fight against Sauron's army, but she was not allowed. In the short time between the elves decision to do battle and their departure, Saerwen spent as much time as she could walking in the woods with Veryan, and practicing fighting tactics with him, and trying to persuade him to take her with him somehow. When that didn't work, she declared her love, young, and foolish is it may have been to do so. Most elves did not seek a life partner for a long time, and perhaps it was silly of the two of them to want to promise themselves to each other, but they did.
Veryan promised her that when he returned he would formally ask her parents to allow them to be betrothed. Shortly afterward, he left with a large army of elves and Numenoreans to go fight against the dark lord. But the promise turned out to be very short-lived. He died in battle, and she was informed of this by her older brother, who seemed to be all over the place and know much of what was going on. He was also the only one who knew of her feelings for the elf, other than her mother, and therefore returned to Mirkwood in order to comfort her. The two of them walked together for long hours which somewhat soothed her. This comfort did not last. After Sauron seemingly disappeared from the world, many of the elves returned to Mirkwood and had discovered that Dûrion had betrayed them all. He had been working with the enemy, and was the reason that many other elves had died. One particular elf from Lothlorien, by the name of Thalion declared him a traitor before many elven eyes, and shamed Saerwen's parents, and shocked her to the core. Saer would never have believed her brother was a traitor, and refused to believe it, and tried to convince the elf otherwise. But nothing she said mattered to them.
Saerwen as well as her parents were there to witness the death of Dûrion. It was made very public that he was a traitor, just so that others knew what happened to those who did not help the right cause. From then on, Saer's grief turned to anger. She had tried to accept the death of Veryan. But now, with the death of her beloved brother, the rage was all consuming. It distanced her from her family, and from anyone who tried to get closer to her. She became more difficult to deal with. At that time, her mother suggested maybe Saerwen travel to the undying lands, but the elf refused to do so. Not until she had gotten vengeance for her brother's death, wrongful as it was in her eyes. No matter what she did, play music, practice her swordfighting, nothing mattered so much to her as to get revenge and go after the elf named Thalion. Her father tried to reason with her, to show her all the good things that were still in Middle Earth to stop her on her quest for vengeance, and tried to tell her that by taking such a path she would never be able to live at peace, and live a fulfilling life. But nothing that Melcindómien said had any effect. And because of this, the elf chose to leave Middle Earth with his wife. He did not wish to see what would become of his grief-stricken daughter searching for vengeance.
And so, Saerwen was alone. It took her the first few years in the Third Age to figure out how to find Thalion, and to journey there. At first, she wasn't sure she could get enough nerve to act on her feelings. But then she remembered her brother's dead body and went for it. And so she killed the elf named Thalion, without feeling much guilt. From then on she never stayed in one place for long. The fact that she had killed another elf did disgust her, although she believed her reasoning was sound. The next 100 years she spent making up for it as best as she could by carrying messages from one elf to another to another, always keeping herself busy. Saerwen never allowed herself enough time to think about what she had done. Saerwen spent the next three thousand years completely out of sight and knowledge of most people, in the wilderness, surviving and wandering all over Middle Earth without much purpose. Darkness started to creep back into the world, and Saer found herself battling foes she had not expected would return.
Wondering what was going on, she returned to the world of men and elves, and discovered much had changed. Many elves had departed for the Grey Havens, and few things of what she remembered remained. With great knowledge of the areas around her though, she went to figure out the answer, and it didn't take her long to learn that Sauron had not been destroyed. No, that the foolish man Isildur had clearly not destroyed the ring. Not knowing where that deadly object was disturbed Saer, but she also knew the enemy did not have it. Saerwen spoke to some Southron men who explained to her what was going on, provided she do them a favor. And thus, she traded information for the task of stealing them some weapons and armor, and to search for the ring. The second task though she did with less interest, because she did not care much about finding it, and would never have told those horrid men even if she knew. Upon learning about a council in Rivendell, she set out to try to find out what was happening, but barely missed out on it. The fellowship had already set out from Rivendell, and Saerwen was left with the thought of perhaps pursuing them to discover what was going on, or helping Elrond with some tasks he needed. She chose the former, and set out on her own to learn more about this strange quest.
