Legolas
"I go to find the sun!"
full name, Legolas
nicknames, Greenleaf, Thranduiliun, Las, Pointy-eared princeling
age, For an elf, Legolas is considered to be terribly young at just over five hundred years of age. He was born T.A. 2482, making him 537.
class/profession, An archer, a warrior, the prince of Mirkwood, and a member of the Fellowship.
marital status, Single
race, Elf
alliance, Legolas is a member of the Fellowship of the ring and is fighting against the dark forces of Mordor.
hair, Legolas has long hair (for man's standards), fair in color and fineness. It rests neatly below his shoulders and he wears two small, identical braids tied back on either side, which is symbolic as much as practical for battle.
eyes, His eyes are small, almond shaped, and a gray in color with flecks of blue. They tend to appear rather fathomless and unreadable and glaze over only when he's in elven sleep.
build and body, Standing at about 5'11, he's neither tall nor short. He weight, however, half of what a man at his height might weigh, and therefor is particularly lithe and agile.
anything else, Nothing save the pointed ears of his kind and fact he may wear clothes that seem unfitting for given weather. At all times he carries on his person his bow and twin hunting knives.
face claim, Orlando Bloom

likes,- The Forest of Lothlórien, city of Rivendell, Rohan. Legolas' exposure to the wonders of Middle Earth has been limited and these marvels of nature are places he'd either wish to see or has enjoyed seeing.
- Playing his part, however small it may be, in destroying the ring. He does not consider himself a leader or even someone worthy of recognition in the big picture, but the picture itself is enough. He wants nothing more than to see the ring destroyed and feels that he owes to it himself as well as Middle Earth to do everything in his power to make that happen.
- Horses, traveling- the two when grouped together especially. Legolas by nature feels most at ease riding through the forests, experiencing the songs of nature be it the rocks the trees or the animals.
- Fighting as an art form, precision, expression- one he can only show through his bow. Though fighting has it's practical uses, hundreds of years give one a time to appreciate the detail and mastery in being able to be one with your weapon of choice.
- Music, singing- particularly to the irritation of his companions, or their marvel. He finds it a wonderful thing to lift people's spirits.
dislikes,- The ring. The ring, those that have tried to control it, and all related forces have brought nothing but pain and destruction to Middle Earth. They've killed off families, torn apart nature, and there's nothing worth that.
- Being underground or in some other way cut off from the sun and stars. The elven kind has a strong bond with nature and being without it is unimaginable and in prolonged cases unfathomable.
- The racial barriers that question his friendships with Aragorn (and in the future Gimli), as well as the bias the Elven kind has towards the younger races in general. They as a people must make the best of what the Valar has given them and Legolas doesn't see how anyone can be blamed for what they are, be it elves or men.
- The amount of people- be it women, children, elders, or even men that lack the want or experience- that are put to defend their homeland, and die doing so. Human lives are short enough that they shouldn't be wasted unnecessarily out of martyrdom.
- Immortality, at times, because it is difficult to watch the world undergo changes and ages while he might only experience a subtle maturing of appearance. It is what has driven many of his kin to the undying lands and one day Legolas will have to watch many of the people he cares about fade from the earth.
strengths,Though he has no technical powers, as an elf he has heightened scenes- particularly keen vision and hearing. He is unaffected by certain things that would plague a mortal human- such as getting sick in cold weather. A jump from a tree or the back of a beast that would potentially injure another he can land with little effort. He also doesn’t need as much rest or food, his endurance level being far greater than most. As a woodland elf, his connection to nature and its inhabitants (trees, horses, etc) is very strong. He is also immortal, meaning that he can’t die of old age or such natural causes- though he can be killed like any other being. Non-physical strengths would include being a loyal companion, humble, and with no need for any titles or credit, being able to see people past their titles and races, being an optimist, and terribly stubbornly resilient.
weaknesses,Legolas does not take well to being put in positions of leadership or decision making. He's somewhat out of tune with how to handle and cope with human emotions like rage or grief or console other experiencing them, but his emotions occasionally get in the way of his better judgement. He feels particularly threatened underground or in unfamiliar territory, and is known to loose his temper more often than say, Lord Elrond might, as well as jump to conclusions. He is, in many ways, still a child to his kin, and retains a certain degree of their hopeful nativity, be that a thing to take as a positive of negative.
fears,- Middle Earth falling completely into darkness
- Being overcome with the sea longing that is sending his kin to the Undying Lands
dreams,-Seeing the end of the War of the Ring alongside the rest of the fellowship.
-Restoring faith in men in the elves of Middle Earth.
personality,Hundreds of years old, it would be difficult to say that Legolas didn't have a dynamic personality, ever mattering who he might be associating with or in what situation he finds himself. Legolas is generally very quiet, but the silence has never gotten him marked as shy. While he speaks with dignity and his words are more often than not of true importance, he is rather amicable and a comforting presence to those around him. He goes by the logic that all people are good until they do bad things, so a stranger is seen for his or her good qualities, as opposed to being an immediate threat. He has an optimistic innocent about him and people tend to be drawn to him for reasons they can’t always explain.
To his friends, which are everything to him, his loyalty is great, and he would go to great lengths for them- including death, which is something most elves wouldn’t honestly say. Amongst people not of his kin his is usually considered wise, with hundreds of years of experience and knowledge others can’t imagine. An unfathomable alien among men that understand so much less. But within his people he is young, and even considered to be reckless. The ‘hopeless cause of men’ doesn’t put him off, neither does the thought that he may die of grief after the man who has become his best friend passes on. He can be too curious and too hotheaded, but he's also very wise and very capable of thinking on his feet.
In battle he single-handedly takes on the greatest challenges, playing on his strengths, and appearing completely fearless. To a great degree he really is. Fearless, elegant- in both appearance and status. He is not a fan of violence, but it willing to defend that which is important to him regardless of morals. He’s also generally humble, simply wishing to be known for his companions and personal achievements, most of which he doesn’t even accredit himself for. He doesn’t see himself as the leader that his father is, or the one that Aragorn is, and he is content to assist with his skills from a point of lesser knowledge.
He doesn’t often show temperament, but he is provoked at threats or dishonor to his company, and will uncharacteristically retaliate at such point. He has a lighthearted spirit, despite the plaguing wars, and tries to offer optimism and mirth in the dark times. He shows certain youthful pleasures- singing, climbing trees, engaging in completions to count how many orcs are slain during battle. He does, though, recognize true hopelessness, and try to divert his friends from battles they simply cannot win. While he’s worldly for his time, elves aren’t exposed often to anguish, and he lacks to ability to recognize and deal with certain emotions rationally. He has a tendency, as do most warriors, to hide off their feelings, and he does it so well, that one not educated my just assume he has none. Though in all, Legolas is typically best recognized as a fierce opponent and a worthy ally.

father, King Thranduil of Mirkwood, alive
mother, Huclya Cuthalion, deceased
siblings, two older brothers
other figures, only his friends
lineage, Mirkwood
history,Legolas is the youngest son of King Thranduil and wife, which makes him prince to the elves of Mirkwood forest, though without any likeliness of succeeding the throne. As most elves in this time period, he spent a good portion of his life seeing little of the world outside his homelands. Of the elven kingdoms, Mirkwood was one of the darkest and most dangerous, overrun by past conflicts and the shadow of darkness that edges on Middle Earth. Most people dare not venture though it, as you'd have to be a warrior to scout the thick forests full of creatures of darkness. It was an attack in the wild that killed Legolas' mother and sent the king and kingdom spiraling father downward than they'd fallen even after the first shadow fell and half the race was wiped clean. Mirkwood had little foreign affairs, as it's nearest neighbor was a drawven race, that feuded with Thranduil over economics.
Legolas was trained as an archer and a swordsman, and at a young age –to a human retrospect- joined the Mirkwood Guard. He made numerous trips to Imaladris, where he began forming a friendship (albet a troublesome one) with Aragorn, who was at the time residing with Lord Elrond and his children. Because of his diplomatic position, he had accompanied his father to what was supposed to be a peaceful agreement between local kingdoms and races, but instead turned into the Battle of Five Armies. Mirkwood’s allies were a tense matter it seemed, and that was Legolas’ first experience in war, which he survived relatively unscathed.
Some years after this, a creature by the name of Gollum was captured, and the Mirkwood Guard were put in charge of his captivity and relative well-being. Legolas was one of his guards, though not on duty at the time of his escape. He was rescued by a band of orcs that ruthlessly slaughtered his Elven guards and Legolas was sent to tell of the escape in the Counsel in Rivendell. Despite disagreements with the dwarven representative whom his father had imprisoned the father of before, Legolas was selected to represent to his kin in the fellowship of the ring. He left Rivendell before sending note or permission to his father and he served as a warrior and a scout for the company through their journey to Caradhras and the Mines of Moria, though he entered the later against his better judgement in vow of the fellowship.

rp sample,The choice to enter the Mines of Moria had not been one made with little consideration. It had been almost unanimously decided upon by the fellowship prior to even their forcing from the Cahardas, but the event had made it impossible for any of the deciders to build up a change of heart. Legolas had ill feelings in regards to the caverns prior to their admittance, but he felt nothing could more accurately describe them than the exclamation which Boromir uttered not long after entering. Moria was not a city. It was a tomb. Even without the reeking death and decay of the place, it was uncomprehensable for the wood-elf how anyone could choose to make a life here.
Legolas had been exposed to places of darkness before. In fact, some would claim that his homeland was one of the darkest in Middle Earth. In Mirkwood, the trees sang songs of anguish and mourning and a permanent cloud held its position over the sun. In Moria, however, there were no trees to sing songs of any variety, and the sun was a foreign entity in itself. Moria was a realm of silence, save the occasional hiss of a creature in the dark that may have been as fetid as the one whose howl willed them into this tomb to begin with. Elven eyes and ears strained could find no remnants of life. Only death. Only dwarvish bodies scattered about the ground with arrows embedded in their chests. A sight the others could be lucky in remaining blind to. There was a chill, without the sun, that Legolas assumed unnatural enough that only he might feel, but it may compare to the the cold of a man passing through the winds of Cahardas. He'd claimed then he would find the sun but he'd never felt so far from his goal.
More than a day they had been trapped now, wandering through the twists and turns of the dwarvish city. And all Legolas could be thankful for was that they'd been spared the 'dwarven hospitality' of a hundred Gimlis in addition to their peril. How long they had been trekking since their last repreive Legolas was not certain, but he knew that it had been a long time. Hours prior Gimli’s tales of the dwarves had died out and a hobbit had asked when they may sit for a meal. Whichever may be most appropriate at this hour, but what hour it was it was hard to tell. Gimli had explained of a way they kept time in the mines, but Legolas had been thoroughly distracted throughout the tale. Mithrandir would bid them to rest soon, he knew, and his heart pressed him to make haste through the mines while they were able. As opposed to scouting ahead of the group as he usually did he now straggled behind, keeping watch on the creature that he'd discovered almost immediately was watching them. And it was a creature he had a personal reason to be wary towards. Observant of the fact that the a portion of group's pace now nearly matched his own in lagging, he set his own wants aside to approach Aragorn and in hushed Eleven whispers he assured that they were as safe as they might find themsevles so long as they were trapped in this wretched hole. Mithrandir paused to announce they would stop as soon as they found a place suiting for such, and Legolas smiled lightly at the notable relief shown by some of the group members when he returned to his position.
